Lake Erie Fishing Report 5/7/21

Lake Erie Report:

Walleye have had good reports coming in from north of Kelleys Island in 35-40 feet of water, as well as 30-40 feet deep from Huron to Cleveland with Bandits, Yozuris, and Bomber 24/25as  at 80-120 feet back. Perfect Tens have yielded good results 15 feet deep along the Gold Coast with anglers having success trolling deep at 1.8 to 2.2 mph. There have been multiple reports of limits being caught near the reef complex at 25-30 feet. Darker colors have yielded better results 40-80 feet back. There are predictions for an uptick in action in the coming weeks in these same areas. Recommendations from recent reports are Husky Jerks and Bandit Walleye Deeps.

Small Mouth Bass fishing has been producing some large fish in 9-20 feet of water using jerk baits, swimbaits, and using hair jigs near the bottom in rocky areas. In the coming weeks as the water warms, fish should continue to push for shallow waters. The best areas are predicted to be around the Islands, near Vermilion, and in the Ashtabula/Conneaut breakwall areas.

Lake Erie Pier fishing has been reported to be excellent as well, especially in Huron with limits being reached throughout the week. Berkley Hit Sticks, Perfect Tens and Bomber Long 15As have been popular.

Water temperature off Toledo is 55°, an increase of 4°; off Cleveland is 51°, an increase of 1°; and off Erie is 53°, an increase of 7°.
