Lake Erie Fishing Report 5/1/21

Walleye have been reported to yield better results north of Kelleys Island in 35-40 feet depths. Anglers have been using Bandits, Yozuris, and Bombers at 1.2 to 1.8 mph, with darker colors producing better from 50-70 feet back. Hair jigs are still catching 8-20 feet deep, but as the water warms, there will be less bites. Most fish being reported on hair jigs have been smaller than fish caught trolling. Purple and green jigs are reported to be working best. In the Cleveland area, fish have been caught on Perfect 10s or Bandits (no more than 50' back on Bandits) in relatively shallow water (15'-30').

There are reports of Smallmouth Bass in shallow waters, around 9-20 feet, which should continue with upcoming warmer water temperatures. Anglers have been using jerk baits, tubes, swimbaits and hair jigs in rockier shallow areas.

The water temperature off Toledo is 51°, off Cleveland is 50°, and off of Erie is 46°
