🎣 Weekly Fishing Report – September 4th 🎣
We're starting to get into that late-summer transition where cooler nights should gradually bring more fish back toward shallower water. One thing that's a little different this year is the amount of rain we've had recently. Berlin Lake hasn't dropped as quickly as we normally see, so some of the areas that typically improve as the lake falls may be a few weeks behind this year.
Crappie:
Crappie are still being caught around bridges, docks, shaded cover, and deeper structure. Minnows, Bobby Garlands, Crappie Magnets, and other small plastics continue to be reliable choices. We've also been keeping a close eye on Greenbower and Rockhill. Both areas normally get much better as Berlin drops, but with all the rain we've had lately, we expect that bite to be a few weeks behind this year. Once the water starts coming down more consistently, these are definitely two areas to watch.
Walleye:
Walleye fishing at Berlin has remained pretty good. Trolling continues to account for a lot of fish, with Flicker Shads, Flicker Minnows, Harvest Shads, and other small crankbaits working well. Casting VIB-E's, Jigging Raps, and jigs tipped with crawlers has also been producing. As nights continue to cool, start checking some shallower flats during the early morning and evening instead of concentrating only on deeper water.
Wipers:
Wipers are still being caught at Walborn, with chicken liver continuing to be one of the better options. 3–4 inch paddletail swimbaits can also produce when the fish are actively chasing bait. At Berlin, anglers trolling Flicker Shads are still occasionally picking up wipers mixed in with the walleye.
Catfish:
Catfish have stayed active throughout the area. Channels, drop-offs, deeper holes, and areas around bridges remain good places to start. Nightcrawlers, shrimp, shad, and chicken liver continue to be the most consistent baits. As the water cools, don't be afraid to start checking slightly shallower water as well.
