🎣 Weekly Fishing Report – August 7th 🎣
We're getting deeper into the summer pattern, but the fishing around the area has continued to be pretty good. Berlin has been producing walleye, crappie are staying close to deeper cover, and catfish and wipers are giving anglers plenty of opportunities as well. With the warmer water, depth and time of day can make a big difference, so don't be afraid to move around until you find active fish.
Crappie:
Crappie are still being caught in good numbers, especially around bridges, deeper docks, and shaded structure. The 224 and Route 14 bridges at Berlin are both worth checking, along with any deeper cover that provides some relief from the sun. Minnows, Bobby Garlands, Crappie Magnets, and other small plastics have been working well. Try working different depths around the structure until you locate the school.
Walleye:
The walleye fishing at Berlin has been good, and we've continued to hear more reports than we were earlier in the summer. Trolling small crankbaits has been one of the most consistent ways to cover water and find fish. Flicker Shads, Flicker Minnows, and Harvest Shads have all been good options. Anglers are also picking up fish by casting VIB-E's, Jigging Raps, and jigs tipped with crawlers. The north end of Berlin continues to be a good area to start, with many fish being found roughly in the 8–16 ft range.
Wipers:
Wipers are still showing up at Walborn, with chicken liver continuing to account for a lot of the catches. 3–4 inch paddletail swimbaits are also worth throwing when the fish are actively chasing bait. Over at Berlin, anglers have been picking up wipers while trolling Flicker Shads, so you may run into a few while targeting walleye as well.
Catfish:
The catfish bite has remained strong across Berlin, Walborn, Deer Creek, and other local waters. A lot of the fish have been relating to deeper water in the 10–16 ft range, especially around drop-offs, channels, and bridge areas. Nightcrawlers, shrimp, shad, and chicken liver have continued to be reliable choices. If one spot isn't producing, moving around and trying different depths can make a big difference.
☀️ Summer Fishing Tip: With the warm water we've had, don't overlook the early morning and evening bite. During the brightest part of the day, look for fish to move toward deeper water, shade, or structure.
