Weekly Fishing Report
The summer heat has continued to influence the bite this week, with many species spending more time around deeper water or shaded cover during the day. If you're heading out, don't overlook the early morning and evening hours, as they've been producing the most consistent action.
Crappie:
Crappie fishing has remained steady, with fish holding around shaded cover and slightly deeper water as temperatures stay high. The Route 224 Bridge and the Route 14 Bridge at Berlin Lake have both been producing good numbers of crappie, along with fish being found around docks, standing timber, and shaded trees. Live minnows, Bobby Garlands, and Crappie Magnets continue to be the most productive baits.
Walleye:
Walleye reports continue to improve, with trolling remaining the best approach. The north end of Berlin Lake has been producing fish on Flicker Shads, Harvest Shads, Flicker Minnows, and other similar crankbaits. VIB-E's have also been a solid choice when fishing deeper water and structure.
Wipers:
Walborn Reservoir continues to produce the most consistent wiper reports, with chicken liver and 3–4 inch paddletail swimbaits accounting for plenty of fish. Anglers have also been catching wipers while trolling Flicker Shads on Berlin Lake, so don't be afraid to cover water if you're targeting them there.
Catfish:
The catfish bite continues to be one of the strongest in the area. Most fish are coming from deeper holes, channels, and drop-offs, with steady reports from several local lakes. Nightcrawlers, shrimp, shad, and chicken liver have all been producing plenty of action.
