Fishing Report Week of 4/19/2026

Walleye:
The walleye are finishing up spawning in the river and are starting to slide into shallow areas. Focus on spots near green trees and bushes where they’re feeding. Flicker Shads have been producing, along with live bait jigs tipped with crawlers or minnows worked along the bottom.

Crappie:
Crappie are beginning to move into shallow trees and cover. Anglers are having success using 1/16 oz jig heads paired with Bobby Garland, Panfish Assassin, or Crappie Magnet plastics. Live minnows under a float are also a solid option right now.

White Bass:
White bass have been caught all over the Mahoning River this week. Twister tails, rooster tails, and live minnows have all been working well. This bite is starting to pick up and should continue to improve.

Wipers:
Wipers have been caught near the southwest corner of Berlin Lake. 3–4 inch swimbaits have been the go-to for targeting these fish.

Catfish:
Catfish are still pretty spread out, and reports have been a little slow so far. That should change quickly with the warmer weather. Shrimp, chicken liver, shad, and artificial catfish baits have all been producing.
