Fishing Report 8/2/2024

Walleye: Walleye activity has slowed a bit recently, but there are still chances for anglers at the Railroad Bridge and the dam at Berlin. Casting vibes has had some success, but trolling with baits like Bandit Lures, Flicker Minnows, Flicker Shad, and Hot n' Tots continues to be effective. Reports have been slim the past week with the warmer weather, but it seems that the morning bite is staying steady.

Crappie: Crappie are active around shaded areas such as bridges and docks, with the best results coming from depths of 10 to 16 feet. Using soft plastics like Panfish Assassins, Bobby Garlands, and Twister Tails on a 1/16 oz jig head is recommended. Night fishing at the Railroad Bridge remains productive, as well as the 224 bridge, with live minnows being particularly effective after dark. Greenbower has been a reliable spot for crappie recently, with reports remaining consistent.

Catfish: Catfish are being caught in several locations, with a notable number coming from the 14 Bridge at Berlin. Other good spots still include areas off Price Street at Berlin, Deer Creek, and Walborn. For the best results, try using chicken liver, large nightcrawlers, shrimp, or artificial catfish bait. Most reports this week have became from these areas.

Wipers: Wipers have been caught more in the past week, fish are still being caught on chicken liver, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits. After heavy rainfall, the Deer Creek spillways have been a good spot to target. Reports over the past week have been better then the last few weeks.

Lake Erie Walleye: In Lake Erie, walleye are mostly being caught with Stinger and Badmo spoons using Dipsy or Jet Divers. Crankbaits like Bandits and Berkley Deep Hit Sticks are also effective when used with snap weights, lead core, or wire line. Most reports are still coming from the Cleveland area and eastward, with larger fish found in deeper waters (70+ FOW) and some as deep as 78 FOW. There have also been reports of catches in shallower waters around 45-55 FOW. Reports over the past week have been very consistent as usual.
