Fishing Report 7/19/2024

Walleye: The walleye bite has slowed down a bit, but anglers are still catching fish around the Railroad Bridge and the dam at Berlin. Some are casting vibes, but most are trolling the same baits as in recent weeks, including Bandit Lures, Flicker Minnows, Flicker Shad, and Hot n' Tots.

Crappie: Crappie have been active near bridges and docks in shady waters, with depths of 10-16 feet being particularly productive in recent weeks. To target these fish, try using soft plastics like Panfish Assassins, Bobby Garlands, and Twister Tails combined with a 1/16 oz jig head. Night fishing at the Railroad Bridge has also started to pick up, with some anglers doing well after sunset using live minnows.

Catfish: Catfish are being caught all over the place, with many being caught at the 14 Bridge at Berlin. Other productive spots include areas off Price Street at Berlin, Deer Creek, and Walborn. The 224 Bridge has also produced good catches recently. For the best results, use chicken liver, large nightcrawlers, shrimp, or artificial catfish bait.

Wipers: Wipers have slowed down, but the ones still being caught are being taken on chicken liver, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits. Target the Deer Creek spillways after heavy rain, as these fish are usually present in these conditions.

Lake Erie Walleye: Anglers are catching most walleye on Stinger and Badmo spoons with Dipsy Divers or Jet Divers. Some anglers are also still catching fish on crankbaits like Bandits and Berkley Deep Hit Sticks. Most reports have come from Cleveland and eastward. Many bigger fish have been caught in 60+ feet of water (FOW), but there have also been numerous reports of fish being in shallower water in 40-45 FOW.
