Fishing Report 6/30/23

We did not get a bunch of activity this week with the smoky weather we have had, but we did hear a few things that has been consistent with the last week or two of fishing.

Lake Erie

Lake Erie fishing continues to be excellent, but walleye size has varied by location, based on the reports we have gotten.

Lorain and Cleveland have both been great with Cleveland seeming to have smaller fish unless you venture to deeper water.  Ashtabula has produced some really nice fish in deeper water.  Almost all the reports we have gotten this week have been from anglers using Badmo Spoons with a few Stinger Spoons mixed in off of Dipsy Divers or Tru Trip Divers.

Berlin and Area Lakes

Walleye

Walleye on Berlin have been caught trolling #5/6 Flicker Shads as well as a few Hot and Tots and Nightcrawler Harnesses.  Target 10-14 FOW if trolling or throw live bait jigs with pieces of nightcrawlers on them in shallow water.

Crappie

Typically at this time of the year, crappie move to slightly deeper water or deeper structure and begin to suspend.  We usually see July and August as some of the best months to catch crappie near the bridges or the railroad trestle on Jigging Raps, Perch Rigs, or Sabiki Rigs.  Slip bobbers are best for fishing deeper water.  If you are able to find them shallow, target them with 2" straight tail minnows (soft plastics) and jigs.

Catfish

Catfishing has been excellent and will only get better with stable weather and warmer temps.  Target catfish with shad, shrimp, or nightcrawlers near any of the area bridges.
