Lake Erie Fishing Report:
It should be a gorgeous weekend out on the Lake to fish for the first weekend in August and here is the chatter we have heard in the shop:
Fishing continues to be excellent for Walleye as they continue their seasonal migration east into the Central Basin. A great spot that has been producing large numbers is NW of Kelleys Island and between the Island and Cedar Point in 35-40 feet of water. Out near Vermilion and Lorain, trolling in 50+ feet of water, trolling dipsy divers and spoons has also produced large numbers of fish. Another popular method has been to use crankbaits with 50 foot leads behind 2 oz weights. In Ashtabula and Geneva, fish in 65-75 feet of water with Stinger Spoons and BadMo Spoons behind dipsy divers, using primarily blue colors, which you can find linked here. In Cleveland, the best bait has been purple and pink Stinger Spoons and sour grapes behind dipsy divers in 55-60 feet of water. If you’re fishing out of the central basin, our reports say that the fish have moved out into deeper waters. In Edgewater and Gordon Park, anglers have been out 4-12+ miles offshore in 60-75 feet of water trolling spoons behind dipsy divers and crawler harnesses behind inline weights. In Conneaut, the best method has been 40-70 feet of water, trolling 20-70 feet down the water column with spoons and crawler harnesses.
Yellow Perch have been plentiful in the Western Basin recently, though the fishing can be sporadic day to day. The best reports have been near the Toledo Water Intake in 20-22 feet of water. Other great spots are out of Camp Perry Firing Range in can “A”, “C”, “E”, and “F”, as well as NW and SW of Green Island in 26-30 feet of water. The most popular bait has been perch spreaders and shiners, which have produced fish that are 7-9 inches in length.
Large Mouth Bass fishing continues to be excellent as well. The best reports have been of anglers fishing nearshore, near structure, including breakwalls. Popular bait has been spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and soft plastic presentations.
The water temps in and around Lake Erie are as follows: Toledo 76°, Cleveland 76°, and Erie 74°.
We hope everyone has a great weekend of fishing and as always, send us your reports and pics to info@talltalestackle.com or tag us on Instagram @talltalestackle
