Crappie- Crappie fishing has improved as the weather has cooled off and has been the best fishing in the area (with the exception of catfish). Crappie are being caught near Greenbower and Rockhill bridges and in and around the mouth of the Mahoning River as it enters Berlin. Fishermen on kayaks have done better than those from shore, but that the shore fishing is improving as the water level goes lower and lower as fishing in structure becomes more accessible.
Walleye – Walleye fishing improved over the past week with fish being caught in 7-14 feet of water on stickbaits while casting or Flicker Minnows or Flicker Shads while trolling. The best bite has been south of 224. Target drop offs or ledges and the fishing has been better later towards sundown.
Catfish- Catfishing continues to be excellent, with the fishing best near the bridges. Target fish with nightcrawlers suspended or under a float or use the Berkley Power Baits/ Gulp Catfish baits for best results.
Musky- Musky fishing has also been very good in the past week. At West Branch, fish are being caught primarily on Jigs such as Bondy’s and Red October Tubes as well as on jerkbaits. In Lake Milton, we are hearing better fishing is done trolling shorter baits (4-7”) with most fish being from 30-35”.
