Walleye have been caught in the last week in depths of about 15-20 feet from just west of the railroad trestle to as far N as the 224 bridge, with some fish mixed in above the 224 bridge as well. Most popular methods have been flicker minnow 5s/7s/9s and Flicker Shads in a 6. Some anglers are also reporting Hawg Harnesses have caught fish in the last few days as well. Look to wade through quite a few crappie and a handful of catfish while trolling in the heat.
Anglers have had the most success trolling for crappie with Flicker Shads in 5/6s, Bandit 300s, and Flicker Minnows in 5s/7s. Berlin has been the most productive lake with the most popular spot being in and around the railroad trestle with fish being found anywhere from 10-15 feet of water.
Close your eyes and cast and you will probably hit a catfish in the head. Seriously. Pretty much every angler in the shop in the last week is reporting catfish with the high water temps we have had. Nightcrawlers suspended about 6 feet from the bottom has been the best method, and many walleye anglers are reporting catfish while trolling nightcrawler harnesses.
Wipers are being mixed in with anglers that are trolling open water and are being found about 15-17’ down in some of the deeper parts of the lake. Flicker Shads, Flicker Minnows, and Smithwick Perfect 10s have been the most productive baits to find them this week.
